The Governing Council and Senate of the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) established UNIFECS on August 1, 1986. It was established for primary purpose of making available to the Nigerian public, private sector and government owned establishments, the expertise and excellence that abound within the University.
The establishment of UNIFECS in 1986 was designed to bring consultancy services of the University under one supervisory umbrella. It started off as an arm of the Bursary but later transformed into an autonomous self-accounting body with its own Board of Management. In March 1992, UNIFECS metamorphosed into a limited liability company with a professional team of managers and a Board of Directors. It is wholly owned by the university.
At inception , our mission was limited to the provision of consultancy services to our clients. Incorporation in 1992 opened up a whole new vista of business activities in addition to providing for flexibility in corporate strategy and unlimited opportunity to conduct business in a professional manner.
UNIFECS is statutorily charged with the responsibility of making this expertise available to Government, corporate organisations and individuals. We are duly bound to guard and protect the interest of our clients at all times for the simple reason that we have solemn duty to uphold and protect the image and integrity of Obafemi Awolowo University. When we accept a job offer, we guarantee that not only will be done, it will be done to the complete satisfaction of the client. We shall always bring to bear on our work the most modern tools of science, technology and the humanities that will produce results capable of withstanding the rigours of scrutiny and verification anywhere in the world.

The establishment is managed by great individuals who share common vision and goals towards achieving a greater position for the establishment in the whole wide world.
The Governing Council and Senate of the University established a Holding Company – Obafemi Awolowo University Investment Company Limited (OAUICL) in December 2007 to perform oversight function over all university companies and commercial ventures. Thus, UNIFECS became a subsidiary of the OAUICL with a Central Board and a General Manager to whom the Manager UNIFECS now reports.
